Discord channel
The Discord channel lets you chat with Cloa by sending direct messages to the Cloa Discord bot. It's the same Cloa, with the same memory, as the mobile app.
What this is
The Discord channel is bot-DM only. Cloa lives in your Discord direct messages, not in your servers. When you message the Cloa bot, you're talking to the same assistant that lives in the Cloa app, with full continuity of memory and context across both surfaces.
What this is not
Cloa does not read your Discord servers, channels, or other DMs. The Cloa Discord bot only sees the direct messages you send to it. Conversations in servers you belong to, group chats, and other DMs are not visible to Cloa.
One-time setup
The setup happens in the Cloa app and finishes inside a Discord DM.
- Open the Cloa app and go to Menu, then Channels, then Discord.
- Tap "Link Discord".
- The app shows you a one-time code and deep-links you into Discord, opening a DM with the Cloa bot.
- Paste the code into the DM with the Cloa bot.
- The bot confirms the link, and the Cloa app updates to show the Discord channel as connected.
After linking
You can message Cloa from your Discord DMs anytime. Cloa remembers what you discussed in the mobile app, in earlier Discord conversations, and across any other linked channels. There's no separate Discord persona to keep in sync.
What works
The following capabilities are supported in the Discord channel today:
- Text chat with full memory across the app and Discord.
- File and image attachments. Cloa reads attached images and files and uses them as context for the conversation.
- Formatted replies, including Discord's markdown for bold, italics, code blocks, and lists.
- Slash commands exposed by the Cloa bot for common actions.
What doesn't work yet
A few things are not available in the Discord channel:
- Voice calls. Voice with Cloa is currently available in the Cloa app only.
- Posting in your Discord servers. Cloa cannot send messages, read channels, or take actions in servers you belong to.
- Reading your other Discord conversations. Cloa has no access to DMs or group chats you have with anyone else.
Managing the link
To review or remove the connection, open the Cloa app and go to Menu, then Channels, then Discord. Tap the entry to view details about the binding, including when it was linked. Use "Disconnect" to revoke the connection at any time. Once disconnected, the Cloa bot will stop responding to your DMs until you link again.
Privacy
Cloa only sees the direct messages you send to the Cloa bot. Your servers, your other DMs, and your group conversations stay private and are never read by Cloa. If you unlink the channel, Cloa stops receiving any messages from Discord on your behalf.
Coming soon
Cloa inside Discord servers is on the roadmap as coming soon. It isn't supported today because of how Discord's API model handles server access, and we want to get that experience right before turning it on. For now, the Discord channel is DM-only.
